That time urgent care broke my brain a little 🥺

Hey, Reader.

I took my daughter to urgent care last week because her fever had spiked to 104. I was slightly concerned—just enough that I needed to hear from a professional that everything was okay.

The waiting room was packed with other kids showing the same symptoms. But that didn’t stop the internal monologue from kicking in:

“Am I making her more sick by being here?”​
​“Should I have brought her sooner?”​
​“I bet it’s just the flu—we need to go home and hydrate.”​
​“What if it’s something worse?”​
​“Will the doctor believe we’ve been hydrating her?”​
​“Should I have stayed home from work, even though my husband was with her?”​
​“Did I do something to make her sick?”

You know those moments—when the mental load sneaks up and hits like a wave. Suddenly, you’re swimming in guilt, what-ifs, and overwhelm.

One deep breath reminded me: I am a good mother. I made the best choice I could with the information I had.

But I didn’t get to that sense of calm by accident.
It came from doing the work to understand my mental load—and having a process to work through it.
